A December to Declutter

Longer Blue Line
December 7, 2023

Often, December is the busiest and most stressful month of the year.  From putting up Christmas decorations to planning holiday hosting, it is easy for decluttering to take the backseat.  However, experts say it is perhaps the most important time to declutter with some seasonal categories needing our attention.  Read on to learn how clearing space by tackling these three household items is one of the best ways to get organized!  Make this month, “A December to declutter”  to make your home more organized and less overwhelming during the holiday season.

Declutter Seasonal Decorations

Each year when you take out your holiday decorations, be sure to set aside unwanted decorations and well used pieces.  A  thoughtful idea would be to give them to someone who would appreciate them by donating the things you no longer have a use for.  Items which are worn out or broken should be thrown away.  Doing this task each December will make decorating more enjoyable!  Plus, it makes taking all the decorations down and filing them away again in January much easier!  Do you have a dedicated space to store all your seasonal decorations?  Creating a custom garage organization system is the answer!

Minimize Winter Accessories

With the winter temperatures making themselves at home and the snow starting to fall, we have all been reaching for our hats, mittens, and scarves daily.  This December why not take the time to determine which accessories you are using, and which items are left collecting dust.  Are your winter belongings getting lost in the clutter somewhere?  There is nothing worse than grabbing your favorite pair of gloves to find one of them has gone missing!  The solution to this problem is decluttering your entryway (and winter accessories) by having a place for everything to be stored.  A custom entryway closet with the correct amount of storage makes hats and gloves easy to find and keep organized!

Guest Room Declutter and Organization

Last on our “December Declutter” list is the guest room and bathroom.  If you are planning to host guests over the holiday season, this area is a must!  You want to declutter your bed linens, towels, and bathroom amenities.  Start by removing anything you would be embarrassed for guests to see and throwing out anything you wouldn’t use yourself.  Once you have successfully decluttered, take into consideration if anything needs replacing. Perhaps, purchasing some new bath towels or adding some comfy bedding is the extra touch you need to make your guests feel at home!  Of course, the new bath towels and linens will need a convenient place to be stored.  Consider adding a custom storage unit or linen closet to keep everything tidy and within arm’s reach!
